War poetry contest 2024 Voices from the Trenches

Being a writer can sometimes be solitary and quiet. A writer can understand how it feels to fall in love with every single character, battle with dialogues, work with vivid poetic devices, endeavor for perfection, and build an entire universe from scratch. Guess what? You’re not alone. We understand the efforts you put every day into your work. Since we are a team of writers and artists too. The writing industry is always considered as something obscure and profound by the public in general. It has become so difficult to stand alone and to stick with a writing career in the commercial society we live in today. Compared to other financial and economic-related jobs, things related to writing are the minority. Writing is a terrific passion, and writers work in a hard industry, one where success is often sought and little received. Writing is not merely something we do, but something we are, and that makes it one of the most challenging of all pursuits in life. I never got the right support to become a writer at the prime youth of my life. In the place where I come from writing is considered a cute hobby instead of passion - a commitment that writers made to themselves. Writers don’t receive the same respect that other professions do. It’s quite condescending. That sort of mentality is also so harmful to amateur writers’ confidence. From my past experience, I realize that this issue needs to be addressed. People need to understand that writing is a hard business. It is time- consumingand after dedicating late-night hours, a roller coaster of emotions to finally produce a piece of literary work that might be read around the globe. So, I come up with this publishing company and yeah I am proud of it. Today we brought you a war poetry contest held in last month celebrating the very existence of War Poetry. Without any further ado, let's announce the winner. - Ruchi Acharya

Halloween Writing Contest 2021

Before announcing the winner, let’s give big thuds of clap for our guest judge Kelly Sargent for her efforts. From the judging panel: About Kelly Sargent As an honoured judge of this delightfully unique Halloween poetry contest, it gave me goosebumps to read through these spine-chilling expressions of fear and horror and gain insight into what mere mortals experience under the mysterious cover of darkness, haunted by nightmares and spooky spirits. As a judge, I found it interesting to observe how people hold both the light and the darkness within themselves. Creative writing is a powerful means through which we can process fear and that which is beyond our understanding. Acts of reflection allow our psyches a degree of safety as we don masks that conveniently, and perhaps ironically, allow us to show parts of ourselves that we often hide. This contest provided poets a forum and opportunity to coax some darkness into the light, while having fun with themselves and readers at the same time. I offer with great pleasure my sincere congratulations not only to the deserving winner and finalists, but also to each one of the talented poets who tricked and treated me in the eerie realm of sweets, shadows, and frightful things that go bump in the night. May we all beware — Boo! About Ruchi Acharya Wow! It’s been a privilege to judge so many entries from all around the world. I truly admire the way poets execute their poems centering around evil and darkness. The horror imagery used is beyond appreciation. Winner or not, you all have done a marvelous job and I would like you to make a toast for it. Poetry is a terrific passion and I bet readers can feel it through this anthology, Whispers of Pumpkins. Keep up the good work. More power to your pen. Have a spook-tacular, boo-tiful, wooo-nderful, and fang-tastic Halloween!

Medieval Poetry Contest Announcement

The Medieval Era was a time of amazing imagination and storytelling. The rich and diverse poems of the time are still praised to this day. Ranging from ‘Beowulf’ to ‘The song of Roland’, poetry in mediaeval times extensively explored stories of bravery, honour and chivalry. Along with epic poetry, the mediaeval era was also known for its courtly love poetry, which celebrated the ideals of chivalry and romantic love. The poems of the time were a reflection of beauty and the power of love. To this day, these poems continue to captivate readers and are a source of inspiration to many contemporary writers. In the month of October, Wingless Dreamer Publisher had given a tremendous shot to all the aspiring writers from around the world to express their inner artist and write a poem on the theme, of Medieval. We wanted our poets to open the door of their thoughts and emotions that connect them to the medieval era and its literature. We wanted their imagination to fly and be limitless. -Wingless Dreamer Team

Winter Poetry Contest 2021

KELLY SARGENT ABOUT HER Snowflakes and Mistletoes Reading Winter poetry reminds us of what sets this time of year apart from the other seasons. Though the earth is entering into hibernation, talented poets have a way of awakening us and our senses to unique pleasures: spotting the first ornate snowflake and glimpsing the mystical winter solstice moon in the sky; warming our hands over the wood stove on a blustery afternoon and listening to comforting crackles from a fireplace aglow; inhaling the aromas of sumptuous holiday feasts and, of course, swallowing that first sip of rich hot chocolate after polishing off a crisp holiday sugar cookie. Wrapped in a fleece blanket and nestled on the sofa, where all you can hear are sounds of sputtering embers and poets’ voices in your mind as you take in every vivid image and measured line, holding a mug of steaming cocoa in one hand and a book of poetry in the other truly offers one of winter’s most delightful pleasures. Born and adopted in Luxembourg, Kelly Sargent grew up with a deaf twin sister in Europe and the U.S. Her 2021 poetry and artwork, including a current Best of the Net nominee, appeared in dozens of magazines in the U.S. and abroad. She also worked as an American Sign Language interpreter and wrote for a national newspaper for the Deaf. She has acted as a creative nonfiction editor for a literary journal, as well as a reviewer for an organization dedicated to showcasing works by sexual violence survivors.

War Poetry Contest 2022

“All a poet can do today is warn.” – Wilfred Owen (1918) War poetry might not seem like the most popular and enjoyable choice to read at first, but it certainly provides valuable insights into human history. Particularly during World War One, poetry helped soldiers relieve their suppressed emotions that were triggered by the sheer brutality they witnessed. War poems uphold beautiful sentiments because they provided a place of comfort to the soldiers. War poems exhibit a broad range of human emotions and deal with topics like identity, patriotism, death, pain, and courage. They reflect on the sacrifice that thousands of men made, and report from the trenches or from poets back home. All the best for the winning announcement. -Ruchi Acharya

Horror Writing Contest 2022

MESSAGE FROM THE JUDGE QIN QIN Congratulations to all the contributors who made it into this anthology. As always, it’s a privilege and honor to witness the beauty of everyone’s work. Sharing your writing is an incredibly vulnerable but necessary act. During their 2022 world tour, Alok Vaid-Memon, an Indian-American genderqueer poet and performance artist, revealed that they were grieving their recently-deceased grandfather. I offer you a paraphrased anecdote: [I did not wish to share my art with you because I am in pain. But it is precise because I am in pain that I must share my art with you; to let you know that I am grieving. Perhaps, sharing my writing while I am hurting will help you with your own hurt.] Let’s quickly put on our white hoods and gather around with lit candles because we’re about to announce the winners. Don’t let the cold breeze blow the candle flame.

Crystalline Whispers Writing Contest

For all snowflakes in silence and all bards of bonfire, I feel truly honored to have read the works of each and every one of you. They were all amazing literary pieces of art and it was an absolute delight to have been afforded the opportunity to review your pieces. I was blown away by the sheer creativity, hardwork and innovation displayed in the contest. As such, it is an honor to be a part of this wonderful expedition to redefine winter poetry Winter, for me, is truly the most mystical season of all. It creates a quiet, soothing, yet cold and dark atmosphere that creates an innate need to seek warmth. This need to seek warmth manifests in many ways, from wrapping yourself like a blanket of presents, to sipping on hot beverages like the cold empty sea where all rivers come to home. Poetry is yet another one of these transformative experiences, and writing your heart out warms you as well as others around you when they get to absorb your words of emotion, feelings and memories. With the season of stillness and the weather of wanderers going back to homes, we sought to invite talented and aspiring poets from across the world to go beyond the ordinary, the mundane and to create works that shine brighter than the stars of the winter sky. It was quite a prolonged and challenging series of heated discussions, back and forth, to craft this anthology of frost and snow for our beloved readers and blossoming writers. As we rub our hands together and gather our wits together to brace the cold winds of winter, your poems provide a warm solace to our hearts, in one way or another. From melancholy to mania, from angst to apricity, from somber to surreal, your work managed to touch our souls in a spiritual catharsis that truly made us appreciate the subliminal beauty of winter. Thank you so much for opening yourselves, whether your hearts, your minds or your souls, to Wingless Dreamer; and for sharing a platform together where even the sky is not the limit of creativity, in what it means to write winter poetry. With warmest regards, Jai Soni

Cradle of Balladry Writing Contest

While the making of this book, we experienced a diverse set of emotions that served as the building block behind the entire process. With a bated breath, we hope that the readers enjoy reading this as much as we did. Happy reading!- Enakshi Ganguly, Editor

Poetry on Life Writing Contest

To all the poets who have struggled with themselves, It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this anthology of Poetry On Life. As the editor, I have had the honour of reading each and every work of art submitted to this collection, and I must say, the talent displayed within these pages is truly remarkable. It is truly an honour to bear witness to the life experiences of each and every poet. For me, life is a black hole with endless possibilities. It is an overwhelming presence that absorbs everything good and bad. Life is experiencing a heart-stopping event, but life is also the happiness that comes with doing the absolutely mundane things in life. Similarly, for some writing is a life changing experience, for others it can be an everyday routine - a comfort amongst the unfamiliar eyes. Writing is a thread of gold interweaved between you and me. A passion that burns within us, a desire that transcends boundaries of time and space and touches the hearts and minds of readers we may never meet. As I read through the poems in this collection, I am struck by the depth of feeling, the artistry, and the sheer skill on display. Each of you has found a way to capture the essence of life – its beauty, its melancholy, its mystery – in your own unique way. Each of you has breathed life into the written word, making it sing, making it dance, making it soar. I want to thank you for sharing your work with us, for taking the time to craft something beautiful and true. Your words have touched me deeply, and I hope they will touch others as well. I encourage you to keep writing, to keep exploring the depths of your own creativity, to keep chasing after that elusive spark that makes writing such a joy and a privilege. With warmest regards, Suhani Hirpara

Nightmare Melodies Writing Contest

Aspiring writers of the world, Greetings from the editor of Nightmare Melodies! It is with immense pleasure that I share with you all a tiny chunk of my soul—this anthology. I had the incredible honour of reading each piece of horror writing submitted to this collection, and I kid you not when I say every single work stole a portion of my soul. It was an incredibly humbling and beautiful experience to give pieces of my soul to these poems. You will find that this anthology carries not only a fragment of my soul but also the souls of all the poets who made this potpourri of precious poems possible. Our souls were brought together by the darkness of the real world, the dreamscape of nightmares, and the darkness within. There is a haunting beauty in the absence of light, and these poets captured it perfectly. (Their spine-tingling horror poetry had me checking under my bed before going to sleep!) As an aspiring writer myself, I understand that writing can sometimes feel like an uncertain journey through a dark dreamscape of dictionaries and thesauruses, what-ifs, structuring creativity to conform to conventional forms, and confusing commas, but fear not, for if you harbour a keen interest and love for writing, you are already on the right track! I encourage you to continue exploring the genre of horror poetry. It is one with intricate nuances about the human psyche, terrifying jump scares, and high chances of scaring the living daylights out of yourself, but it is also one that will spark in you the satisfaction of creating something that speaks to people and stimulates them to delve deeper into their minds and confront the darker corners. If you ever feel discouraged, remember this: writing is like a horror movie marathon. It is scary, it is thrilling, and sometimes you must take a break and eat some popcorn. Please keep writing, exploring, and scaring the pants off of us with your nightmare melodies. You never know who you might inspire or whose nightmares you might haunt. Congratulations and sweet dreams! (If you dare) Your (slightly spooked but mostly impressed) judge and editor, Hamsini Mangalampalli

Wild Heart Poetry Contest

Thank you to everyone who submitted to this contest. It has been such an honor getting to read all of your amazing poetry. Each poem really has the feeling that humanity is a part of nature, rather than a separate entity. It was wonderful and refreshing to see such unique ideas and creative imagery. It just goes to show how much can be learned from stepping outside and being curious about what we see in the sky, in the garden, or walking down the street. A big congratulations to our winner, runner ups, finalists, and everyone who contributed to this anthology. I hope you never lose touch with your wild hearts. And if you ever feel that inspiration is hard to find, (we all get stuck sometimes), don’t forget to go outside and take it all in. KATIE MOINO

Darkness in me

To all those with darkness in them, I emerge from the shadows of my black soul to greet you! I mean, how could I not? A chance to witness the poetic prowess of these terrific writers is not one I will miss! The submissions we received for this anthology were positively brimming with darkness. Through your works, we uncovered glimpses of profound truths and heartfelt emotions. Your poems explored themes of battling with mental illness, losing your identity, and the absolute absence of the existential dread of realising you gave your boss COVID. In those moments, you touched our souls and reminded us that even in the darkest times, there is poetry waiting to be born. Thank you for sharing your inner demons and twisted tales with us. While it takes immense courage to share your darkest thoughts, it takes even more courage to go on the journey of unravelling these thoughts and understanding where they are coming from and what they mean. Our bright and dark parts co-exist, and it is only natural to be scared and stray from the darker corners of our minds. To all of you who are lurking at the borders of your darkness, prodding at it, or finally confronting it, we are incredibly proud of you! We commend your bravery and wish you the best of luck in acquainting yourself with your darkness. What better way to understand the darkness within us than through poetry? The time has come that I must fade into darkness. Continue learning about yourself through the art of writing, embrace the absence of light, indulge in the darkness within you, and create magic. Until next time. Your judge and editor, Hamsini Mangalampalli

It's Crystal Clear Writing contest 2023

Hello! It’s Crystal Clear is a call to not just the natural and romantic notions of winter, but also the all the emotions attached to it. The works I’ve read and the emotions that they have invoked in me are like no other, even if they were second-hand echoes of the emotions that the authors and poets have felt and put words to. As a winter baby, I, too, feel a very integral sort of attachment to the idea of snow and long boots, pretty scarves, huddling for warmth, and drinking hot cocoa – even though it’s mostly a romantic notion of childhood now. I felt incredibly privileged to read and immerse myself all the creative and exquisite works while judging the contest. I found all of them incredibly riveting and unforgettable. Judging and picking winners was incredibly difficult, because all of the works were phenomenal. I hope this anthology reaches everyone that feels that winter holds a special place in their hearts. Whispers of Spring

To all the budding writers of the world, This is your editor fairy speaking! It was an incredible honour to witness the mesmerising works of poets from every corner of the globe who united to celebrate the wonder of spring and the changing seasons. From the delicate blossoms of cherry trees in Japan to the kaleidoscope of colours in an Indian summer, from the rhythmic cadence of a babbling brook to the ethereal dance of sunlight through autumn leaves, the verses found in this anthology paint vivid portraits of the ever-changing tapestry of nature. Through their eloquent words, lyrical beauty, and soul-stirring imagery, these talented poets effortlessly captured the essence of each season's unique magic, evoking a deep sense of awe and gratitude towards the world. These poems reminded us of the intricate harmony that exists between humanity and the natural world. I believe writing is similar to walking through the seasons. It starts with ideas coming to the mind in fiery bouts and the pen moving on paper with heated passion. Then it mellows down until one is shedding ideas and shredding papers, discarding discoloured visions like leaves. Then it gets dark and windy. Words are blown away in the breeze. The pen, cool to the touch in your numb hands, freezes. It gets unbearably cold, and the world stops. But as the writer's ice block thaws, the tiniest slivers of previously buried words are visible, and slowly but surely, with immense care and love, they grow until they stand as a beautiful piece of writing.I encourage you to keep writing poetry about the season of butterflies and blooms, ice cream in crevices and sunshine everywhere, rainbows in fallen leaves, and snowstorms with warm cocoa. Nature poetry has the indescribable power to transport one to distant lands of lush forests, majestic mountains, and breathtaking landscapes. As a poet, you can serenade the senses and rekindle the connection with the awe-inspiring power of nature's seasons. Continue reading, writing, and blossoming as a poet. We can't wait to see you in full bloom! - Hamsini Mangalampalli
